The article studies the separation of lignin from hydrolysis liquor by acid precipitation and the sulfonation process of the obtained lignin. The hydrolysis liquor was first passed through a 50–200 µm polypropylene filter and heated at 80–90 °C for 2–4 h. For lignin precipitation, the pH of the liquid was reduced to 1.8–2.2 by adding concentrated H₂SO₄. As a result of acid precipitation, approximately 97% of the lignin was precipitated within 60–80 min. The IR spectrum of the obtained lignin showed aliphatic C–H vibrations at 2929 and 2853 cm⁻¹, aromatic C=C vibrations at 1593.20 cm⁻¹, C–O vibrations at 1076.28 and 1037.70 cm⁻¹, and aromatic ring C–H vibrations in the range of 896.90–692.44 cm⁻¹. At the next stage, the processes related to lignin sulfonation and the formation of lignosulfonic acid, as well as the corresponding IR spectral characteristics, were analyzed.
